During the bilingual master's course "Process Simulation of Energy Systems", German and international students were able to gain an interesting insight into future-oriented projects and the production of energy technology components, including a detailed tour of the plant. The large number of follow-up questions demonstrated the great interest of the more than 20 participants.
On 6/7 March, the annual conference of the ‘German Swiss Association for the Properties of Water and Steam (GSWAPS)’, organised by the Chair of Thermodynamics, took place at RUB. Over 30 participants from industry and research discussed current research topics. The GSWAPS is the national committee of the International Association of Water and Steam (IAPWS).
The Chair of Thermodynamics has been involved in the training of engineers in Vietnam for ten years. The tenth anniversary of the Mechanical Engineering course at the Vietnamese-German University (VGU) was celebrated on 28 February.
On August 12th, Prof. em. Dr.-Ing. habil. Dr.-Ing. e.h. Wolfgang Wagner passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. Prof Wagner headed the Chair of Thermodynamics at the Ruhr-University Bochum from 1975 to 2006. During this time, he built up the international reputation that the chair still enjoys today. Developments in the field of density, sorption and viscosity measurements with magnetic suspension balances and the development of a new generation of highly accurate empirical equations of state have given new impetus to thermodynamic property research, which is primarily relevant to energy technology. To this day, property models developed under his leadership for natural gases, water and numerous other reference fluids are regarded as international standards.
We mourn the loss of a great scientist, a colleague who was always friendly, had integrity and endeavoured to achieve a balance, and a friend. Our condolences go out to his family.
