Biogas laboratory

 

At the biogas laboratory the anaerobic digestion process and parameters describing and influencing the process are investigated.

Experimental set-up for analyzing the biogas process

Pilot plant

Fermenter volume of about 400 liters, digestate storage, automatic feeding system for a continuous supply of substrates, centric stirring device, electric panel heater, drum-type gas meter equipped with pressure and temperature sensors to estimate the standardized gas volume flow, automatic analysis of the gas quality

 

Triplex plants

3 identical plants, fermenter volume of about 20 liters each, made from glass to enable monitoring the mixing and separation behaviour as well as foam formation, feeding and sampling is carried out manually, vessel with double jacket heated by circular thermostats, drum-type gas meter equipped with pressure and temperature sensors to estimate the standardized gas volume flow, automatic analysis of the gas quality

 

Batch-devices

Fermenter volume of about 500 ml or 1000 ml, eudiometers or MilliGascounter® to determine the standardized gas volume, heating via a tempered room or a water bath, samples for gas analysis from gas bags or taken by a syringe directly from the headspace

Thermophysical properties laboratoy

 

At the “thermophysical properties laboratory” thermophysical properties of digestate and biomass used within the biogas process are determined.

Particle size distribution

Vibratory sieve shaker AS 300 control (Fa. Retsch) for dry and wet sieving to determine the particle size distribution

Density

Pycnometers for determining the density of solid and liquid biomass
Aerometers for determining the density of liquid biomass

Heat capacity

Calorimeter for determining the heat capacity of solid and liquid biomass

Viscosity

Ubbelohde viscometer for the determination of the viscosity of Newtonian fluids
Mixing-type rheometers for the determination of rheological properties of particle-loaded fluids
